SWEPSONVILLE — Mrs. Alma Faucette Newton, 88, of 3014 Swepsonville-Saxapahaw Road died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 at her home after a brief illness.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Robert L. (Red) Newton and the daughter of John William A. Faucette and Sallie Steele Faucette, both deceased. Mrs. Newton was a member of First Baptist Church of Graham. She was a retired employee of Belk in Burlington.
Mrs. Newton was active in the Swepsonville Community Development and helped manage the concession stand at the Swepsonville ballpark for several years. She was also active in the Democrat Women of Alamance County. She served as registrar for the North Thompson township at one time.
Survivors include son, Darrel Newton and wife Joyce; daughters, Phyllis Gumm and husband Bill, Sandra Herring and husband Raymond, all of Swepsonville; grandchildren, Robert Gumm of Swepsonville, Susan McGuinn of Raleigh, Josh Herring and wife Holly of Graham, Seth Newton and wife Angela, and Philip Newton of Swepsonville; great-grandchildren, Colton Newton, Brooke Newton, Meredith Newton, and Caroline Newton of Swepsonville and Joshua Herring of Graham.
The funeral service will be conducted in the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Graham on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Roy Cantrell. Burial will follow in the Phillips Chapel Cemetery in Graham.
The family will be at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. At other times they will be at the residence.
