1880 US Census, Montgomery County, AL, indicates that she is a widow with children Louis, Charles P., Eugenia, and William Wyche.
In 1900, she was living in the household of her son, Louis Meriwether, in Montgomery, AL. She is listed as widowed. The 1900 Census says she had six children, five of whom are living, so Lucy Sophia Meriwether must have died before 1900.

Mrs. A. E. Merriwether died yesterday morning at the home of her son, L. H. Merriwether, Hannon Street. Her death came after a lingering illness.
Mrs. Merriwether from childhood lived within the boundaries of Montgomery County. She leaves three sons, L. H. Merriwether, William Merriwether, C. T. Merriwether, and Mrs. H. K. Alexander. Mrs. Merriwether was a consistent member of the Dexter Avenue Methodist Church. The funeral will take place today from the home of her son, L. H. Merriwether at 32 Hannon Street at 3 o'clock. The services will be conducted by Rev. J. H. James of the South Perry Street Methodist Church.
She is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Montgomery, AL, Lot 6, Square 7, Survey 4. Also buried there are
Mamie L. Merriwether (9/11/1901), Emma E. Merriwether (2/22/1899), and Nanette Merriwether (1/27/1952)
