In 1753 and 1752 James Lea and William Lea, brothers, sold land in St. George Parish, Spotsylvania Co, VA, and moved to that part of Orange Co, NC, which in 1777 became Caswell Co. Parents of James and William Lea were John and Ann Lea of King & Queen Co, VA, both deceased by October, 1731.

He was Sheriff of King and Queen Co., VA 1726. Commission of Peach 1729. Home on Matapony River. Possibly born in England, came to America with parents. Son James under 14 in 1731, Spotsylvania Co, VA. John Leigh granted 484 acres 2 Nov 1705 St. Steph Par K&Q Co Va on Mattapony R for importing 10 persons to VA. Major K&Q Va Militia 1707.
